Profile

Simon G. Bell

APAC investor, operator and senior advisor with more than 25 years of experience across M&A, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, healthcare and strategic advisory.

Overview

Simon G. Bell is an APAC investor, operator and senior advisor with more than 25 years of experience across M&A, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, healthcare and strategic advisory. He has built, led and advised businesses and mandates of significant scale, working with developers, investors, boards, governments and operating businesses across Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and the broader Asia Pacific region.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Simon has spent the majority of his career embedded in Asia. He lived and worked full-time in Indonesia for nineteen years before relocating to Singapore in 2018, and continues to work extensively across both markets. Few advisors operating at his level carry that combination of principal-level track record and ground-level regional fluency.

He does not distinguish between strategy and delivery. In his experience, the two are inseparable.

What He Is Known For

Simon is known for operating effectively in situations where complexity is high, interests are not yet aligned, and the path forward demands both strategic clarity and commercial execution. His instinct is to move things forward. His approach is direct, disciplined and outcome-oriented.

He has worked across the full spectrum, from early-stage project strategy and capital structuring through to execution support, restructuring and senior stakeholder management. He does not distinguish between strategy and delivery. In his experience, the two are inseparable.

Critically, Simon is not only an advisor on other people’s opportunities. He originates his own, identifying early-stage projects, taking on founding risk, structuring the opportunity, and providing or securing seed capital before the project is ready for institutional investors.

Professional Background

Simon is the Founder and Managing Director of Silverwing Investment Ltd, a Hong Kong-based investment holding company with a portfolio spanning energy, healthcare, digital and business advisory services across Asia.

He is also the Founder, Managing Director and CEO of Quantum Power Asia Pte Ltd, where he has led the development of renewable energy projects including the development of Indonesia’s first utility-scale unsolicited Solar PV power plant, which achieved commercial operations in 2020 in Gorontalo, generating a long-term revenue stream of approximately US$ 50 million.

Since 2022, Simon has been leading the development of a large-scale clean energy export initiative. This proposed Solar PV and Energy Storage System in Indonesia is designed to supply renewable electricity to Singapore via subsea cable. The project represents one of the most ambitious cross-border clean energy concepts in the region and reflects Simon’s commitment to originating and advancing large-scale, complex energy opportunities in the Asia Pacific region. He is simultaneously progressing an additional US$ 2.5 billion in clean energy investments across Asia Pacific.

Earlier in his career, Simon served as the deputy leader of an Australian government-sponsored international expert team providing technical assistance to the Indonesian government, including support in establishing the Financial Intelligence Unit within Bank Indonesia (PPATK), with a total project value of US$ 25 million.

He has worked with and alongside institutions including Newmont Corporation, Bank Central Asia, BHP, BP, Semen Indonesia and the World Resources Institute, facilitating more than US$ 337 million in green investments through the New Ventures Asia programme.

Philanthropy and Community

Beyond his commercial work, Simon is committed to giving back and volunteering. He has worked with Engineering Good in Singapore, sponsored the early education of Indonesian children, and supported a long-established orphanage in Central Java. He has provided pro-bono mentoring to young founders and SMEs across APAC and donates regularly to organisations working with at-risk youth in Singapore. He has also been a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors, serving on several committees, and has engaged with regional governance bodies, including the Indonesian Institute for Corporate Directorship.

How He Works

Simon’s approach is commercial, direct and results-driven. He is most effective in situations that call for one or more of the following:

  • Senior independent judgement at board or principal level
  • Sharper strategic framing of a complex or stalled mandate
  • Commercial restructuring or repositioning of projects and platforms
  • Experienced management of investors, boards, regulators or government stakeholders
  • Practical support in bridging the gap between strategy and execution
  • Board-mandated transformation leadership across mining operations and large organisations

He is not a passive advisor. His most productive engagements are those where clients or partners need an experienced principal and operator, someone who has built businesses, led transactions and managed governments, brought into the room.

Education and Language

Simon holds a Bachelor of International Business from Queensland University of Technology. He has continued his education in the region, completing studies in Indonesian business law and economics at Gadjah Mada University, and Indonesian language and culture at Satya Wacana Christian University.

He is fluent in written and spoken Indonesian, an uncommon and commercially significant capability.

Simon works with funds, boards, sponsors and senior executives on mandates where execution risk, commercial complexity and stakeholder dynamics matter as much as strategy itself.
