From 2022, Simon independently originated and spearheaded the development of a large-scale clean energy export initiative, a proposed Solar PV and Energy Storage System in Riau, Indonesia, designed to supply renewable electricity to Singapore via subsea cable. Simon identified the opportunity, structured the concept, and committed early-stage capital and resources before any institutional backing was in place. The initiative involves navigating an exceptionally complex combination of project development, cross-border energy policy, bilateral government relations, strategic partnerships and investor engagement. The total estimated requiresd investment for the project is in excess of US$ 10 billion.
The initiative was announced publicly in 2022 in partnership with Germany’s ib vogt, attracting significant regional and international media attention, including coverage by Bloomberg. The project continues to be advanced following initial partnership restructuring and remains under active development, with ongoing work across project structuring, partnerships and regulatory engagement.
